KeRi upgraded two existing escalators, ES308 and ES309, at the DeKalb Avenue Station, which serves the B, Q, and R trains, along with associated state-of-good-repair work. The upgrades involved designing a new electrical power system, distribution panel, new lighting, and new controls for the escalators.

What We Engineered

Escalator and state-of-good-repair upgrades at the DeKalb Avenue Station (B, Q, R trains):

• New electrical power system and distribution panel for escalators ES308 and ES309
• New escalator controls
• New station lighting replacing aging fluorescent fixtures
• Associated state-of-good-repair work

Station & Escalators

MR # is the MTA master reference number for the station complex. Trains listed are the lines served by the replaced escalators.

The Challenge

The existing escalators were old and in need of replacement, served by an aging 208V / 3-phase distribution system with fluorescent lighting on ballasts, battery-pack emergency lighting in need of repair, piping without heat tracing, and an exhaust-fan-only HVAC system.

Our Solution

KeRi designed new escalator power, distribution, controls, and lighting to modernize the station and return it to a state of good repair while keeping the B, Q, and R platforms in service.
