Project Brief
KeRi Engineering partnered with Essex County College to bring to life a new academic facility at the West Campus, replacing an aging structure with a modern 52,000 SF high-performance three-story building that houses state-of-the-art classrooms and laboratories. Our team delivered a future-ready MEP design featuring a central variable-volume HVAC system anchored by three large packaged rooftop air-conditioning units with energy recovery, ensuring optimal indoor air quality and energy efficiency. Advanced building automation controls were integrated for long-term system reliability and ease of operation. We also provided new electrical service, power distribution, and high-efficiency LED lighting systems, enhancing both function and energy savings throughout the facility. The plumbing systems were designed to meet the diverse needs of classroom and lab spaces while maximizing long-term performance and compliance.
MEP Engineering Scope

What We Engineered
Fully coordinated building systems for a new high-performance academic building of classrooms and laboratories:
- Central variable-volume (VAV) HVAC system
- Three large packaged rooftop AC units with energy recovery
- Building automation controls for reliability and ease of operation
- New electrical service and power distribution
- High-efficiency LED lighting systems
- Plumbing systems for classroom and laboratory spaces
The Challenge
Replacing an aging structure with a modern 52,000 SF, three-story building of classrooms and laboratories meant delivering strong indoor-air-quality and energy performance across very different space types under one central system.
Our Solution
KeRi anchored the design on a central VAV system with three energy-recovery rooftop units and building automation, then layered in new electrical service, LED lighting, and lab-ready plumbing for efficiency and long-term reliability.
